BARRY

This album is dedicated to our much-loved band mate, friend and brother, Barry Mohan, whose life was prematurely cut short on the 17th October 2022. The album recording from June of that year, represents a great time in our lives when we were fortunate to have recorded these songs with Barry by our side. Barry’s vocals and skilled guitar playing feature on all songs. 'Take My Hand,' a standout track on the album, is an original song composed and performed by Barry.

Barry was born in Monaghan in 1994 to parents Deaglan and Marina. He was raised in Aughnacloy alongside brother Pauric, where he enjoyed a happy childhood immersed in music from an early age. Beyond his musical talents, he was an accomplished Irish dancer and skilful Gaelic football and soccer player, winning county medals with his local GAA club Aghaloo.

Despite his varied interests and accomplishments, it was Barry’s passion for music and his undeniable talent that epitomised his short life. Not only an accomplished guitarist, Barry competed in All Ireland fleadhs on both banjo and accordion, later passing on his skills and passion for music through teaching.

Entertaining crowds country wide, Barry excelled as a solo artist and in the two piece group he formed ‘Cracklin’ Jacks’. His warmth and enthusiasm ensured memories and friends were made in equal measure wherever he went. Barry’s musical tastes were eclectic, affording him the ability to seamlessly blend various genres including trad, folk tunes and modern compositions.

It was in 2015 that Barry joined All Folk’d Up. It was evident for all fortunate enough to witness his performances that not only did Barry’s talent and presence captivate audiences, but he belonged on stage with us. Much of the success the band has experienced can be attributed to Barry. His guitar playing, vocals, and ability to harmonise, not to mention the occasional glimpse of his Irish dancing, added an additional and valued dimension to performances. On the many stages we shared together around the world and on the thousands of miles we travelled together, it was always cleart to see that Barry loved what he did.

None of this compared, however, to the happiest and proudest day of Barry’s life, when his little girl and the apple of his eye, Ceala Rose. It was evident Barry was born to be a father and his infectious energy, wit and love of life epitomised his character and will be most remembered and most sorely missed amongst his family and friends. Barry’s nieces, nephew and beautiful, young daughter cherished their time with him and will remember his playful nature and the joy and laughter he brought to their lives.

The album is one we are all extremely proud of. Barry filled our lives with joy and we are grateful to have these precious and everlasting memories. Barry will be forever missed but we hope this album will serve as a lasting tribute to a devoted father, son, brother, a talented musician and a true friend.
